Our Bistro opened in 2012 and was Hitlisted in The List’s 2013 Food and Drink Guide. It’s part of the beautiful West End Village and is tucked away down the stairs at the corner of Alva Street and Queensferry Street. Being part of a traditional building, it has beautiful period features and underwent an extensive refurbishment in July 2013 to give the interior a light and modern feel while retaining some old world charm. Design company four-by-two were instrumental in creating the new look and feel for the restaurant. The refurbishment was also covered in an article by Scottish Licensed Trade News.
Our furniture was built by our joiner Scott from old scaffolding boards and our lobster creel lighting was the result of a funny story which we’ll leave Jade our manager to tell you! The bistro has a cosy atmosphere at any time of year and the conservatory at the back is a little hidden oasis full of light and greenery.
With a number of different rooms, it’s the perfect place for any occasion – for a romantic meal, book our booth seating area – also great for a business lunch. The conservatory is a little sun trap and is always our most popular seating area in the Summer. We also have our group table in the bar area – perfect for events and birthday gatherings. Then there’s the back room with our blackboard wall full of seasonal food illustrations – it’s regularly booked for larger parties and can comfortably seat 20 people.
We aim to give as much focus to our drinks as to our food so you can try one of the incredible botanical drinks produced in Scotland or choose from a range of Scottish brewed beers. There’s a carefully selected list of wines and fizz from Europe too – with interesting bottles from small artisan vineyards. We also make our own seasonal cordials, and serve Edinburgh-based Artisan Roast coffees and Eteaket teas.
